The engine, often considered the heart of a vehicle, converts fuel into mechanical energy to power the vehicle, playing a pivotal role in its performance, efficiency, and longevity; it can be an internal combustion engine (using gasoline or diesel) or an electric motor in EVs, and requires regular maintenance—such as oil changes, timing belt replacements, and spark plug checks—to avoid failures that could completely immobilize the car.
The transmission, which transfers power from the engine to the wheels to enable movement at varying speeds and torque levels, comes in three main types: manual (requiring a clutch and driver input for gear changes), automatic (adjusting gears based on speed and load), and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) for smoother performance; its functionality is crucial, as a faulty transmission can lead to inefficiency or render the car immobile.
Modern automobiles are equipped with Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS), which provide the vital safety function of slowing down or stopping the vehicle when necessary. Its components include hydraulic lines, callipers, rotors, and brake pads.
